ZW's Role

Project Management

Location

Saskatoon, SK

In response to the Covid-19 global pandemic, the SHA worked closely with the University of Saskatchewan and the City of Saskatoon to build a temporary field hospital. The intent of the facility was to serve patients who didn’t require acute care but still needed ongoing services such as oxygen or monitoring in recovering from Covid-19. The state-of-the-art multipurpose complex had the ability to house up to 250 patients on an emergency basis.

Without hesitation, ZW promptly assisted Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) in selecting an appropriate location for the Field Hospital. Once the site was selected and the agreement with the University was reached, we quickly brought together contractually the architectural, engineering and construction teams to perform this high-paced project. We worked diligently together to design/engineer the field hospital in a way that supported SHA’s needs with minimal to no damage to the finishes of the leased building. Our collaboration and joint efforts allowed us to strategically develop and execute the project while also developing a decommissioning plan, which allowed us to easily restore the space to its previous functionality. Stakeholder management was important because not only did we have to consider SHA and everyone involved in the project, but we also had to ensure the University was satisfied with the changes happening to their facility.
