The Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier International Airport Authority (OMCIAA) had experienced a large increase in the number of travelers requiring parking since Phase II of the overall expansion was completed. A needs assessment indicated that the projected capacities would increase and reach maximum facility capacity by 2012. An additional 850 parking places would be needed until a future expansion of the parking structure is required. In addition to the extra spaces, the parking structure roof was added to the 4th Level parking. The main challenge of this expansion was that to meet the operational needs of the airport, the parkade would need to remain open throughout construction.
The OMCIAA engaged ZW to provide full Project Management Services to manage the Design and Construction Phases of the facility expansion.
There were significant budget constraints on this project. The initial cost estimate exceeded the available budget. ZW undertook value engineering exercises during the Initiation and Planning phases and was successful in getting the budget back on track. Over $2M in cost savings were realized during this exercise.
